GEA Pharma Systems (formerly known as Niro Pharma Systems) was formed in early 2000 after GEA acquired the pharmaceutical division of GEI International. The newly acquired brands Buck® Valve (containment interfaces solutions) and Buck Systems™ (contained materials handling), Collette™ (granulation & single pot technology), Courtoy™ (tablet compression),  were combined into GEA Pharma Systems along with the existing GEA brands, Aeromatic-Fielder ™(granulation, drying, pelletizing & coating technology) and the pharma division of Niro (spray drying technology).

With this combination, GEA Pharma Systems became the leading international supplier of Solid Dosage Processing equipment to the pharmaceutical industry able to offer complete process lines for tablet manufacturing, from dispensing and blending to the final tablet with all possible intermediate steps.

In November 2005 followed the acquisition of Steris Gmbh by GEA. After renaming the company into GEA Lyophil it joined the other pharma brands in GEA Pharma Systems. GEA Lyophil supplies specialist freeze drying technology for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets.
